Let’s face it, the Xbox 360 DVD drive is way too loud to enjoy – shocking news for me when I got mine, featuring the Hitachi drive. I heard many rumours about the “much quieter” BenQ drive, so a couple of days after receiving my first one, I ordered another Xbox 360, which had the BenQ drive installed. Here’s a test of both brand new consoles side-by-side – judge for yourself. I believe the Hitachi drive vibrates more, causing some extra noise in the Xbox chassis; the BenQ drive runs smoother, not causing the chassis to vibrate and create extra noise – but really only by a fraction. Both are UK Elite models, bought in March 2008, tested with PGR3. Enjoy!

I’d rather have the Benq, no 360 is quiet, my Xbox slim is loud as the Hitachi 360 when playing Black Ops but not as loud when playing MW2.
Man the PS3 blu ray is soo quiet, I don’t know why people think Xbox is better, I can hear my Xbox over the TV sound and I don’t want to install EVERY game I play!

@bosstimeagain Word bro, i had the Elite Fat earlier before i got the Slim and it was impossible to play games that wasn’t installed to the HDD, especially when the console was placed vertically. Fortunately it´s almost silent when gaming on the disc on the Xbox Slim and it was very silent when gaming on HDD on both versions. I have a slim PS3 and i also agree with you, they are supersilent!
benq much quiter but liteon is quiter i have a 2008 jasper motherboard running liteon and it is super quite but i also have a 2nd gen falcon running a benq and it is also quiet
guyz install game to hard drive it will be very quiet and ur xbox won’t get as hot

so Benq is quieter but hitachi has high failiure rate trust me
Benq is more quieter than the Hitachi Drive but at the same time they are both equal

i must have the hitachi because it souds like mine. mine is 5 yrs never had a prob with it and still have it. but when i turn it off it stays on with the power light blinking sometimes, any ideas?
my xbox 360 has a benq dvd drive and its pretty quiet and its a older model one
the best way to make them make less nosie is to close them. oh wait….
