Ive had an Xbox Arcade for about 2-3 years now, gotten a lot of service out of it. It only recently got a red 1/4 circle in the bottom right-hand corner of the power/circle thingy. What does this mean? Still works… I’ve heard people say it means it’s overheating, but if that’s the case, wouldn’t it just cool down after you stop playing for a couple days? /i only play it like an hour or two every day or so anyways, why is it failing me now???

I have the RRoD right now. I went to the xboxslave site and bought the xclamp repair kit, but I want to know, is it the same kit with the rubber washers that’s in this video?

Could this be a permanent fix?

@LosBlancos1000 when you get the 2 lights you unplug it!

iamdanlafferty February 10, 2012 at 1:07 am

where can i get these screws and what are they called?

iamdanlafferty February 10, 2012 at 1:39 am

what sort/ size screws do i need and what are they called and can i find them at radio shack?

Shift29 February 10, 2012 at 1:51 am

i followed everything but my xbox is still getting 3 rings.

Zidolos February 10, 2012 at 2:33 am

I’ve heard of people needing to re tighten the screws after doing the overheat part which caused some to get loose. So if you’re still getting the rings after this maybe try to retighten the screws or check your thermal paste application

@LosBlancos1000 when it gets to 2 lights u need to unplug it to turn it off..

LosBlancos1000 February 10, 2012 at 4:02 am

And I also don’t feel any heat at all

LosBlancos1000 February 10, 2012 at 4:27 am

Everything worked out fine and my xbox did gave 2 red lights but he never shut down it keep giving me 2 lights for hours. What did i do wrong?

2020jonnybravo February 10, 2012 at 5:26 am

@mdelavega19 the problem is that the console isn’t getting rid of the heat. When it heats up the board flexes thanks to how the case was built. So the flexing combined with the heat is enough to mess with the soldering and basically lifts the CPU/ main chip ( not sure what one ). That causes the red rings. Just heating it is enough to reset it for the most part but the issue just comes back to how it was built.

mdelavega19 February 10, 2012 at 5:45 am

@2020jonnybravo so is this fix temporarily? Is there any fix that is permanent?

animeplushadventures February 10, 2012 at 6:27 am

thanks man! your video really helped me a lot and i was able to fix those nasty red lights!

2020jonnybravo February 10, 2012 at 6:35 am

@mdelavega19 your basically heating up the paste so its liquid again but then it just goes back to how it was and u get the lights again

mdelavega19 February 10, 2012 at 7:19 am

I overheated my xbox 360, turned it off, and in 20 minutes later it worked again. It worked without me having to add more thermal paste or anything or even having to break it apart. Problem is eventually the red rings of death come back. Sooo….is this only a temporary fix? How is your fix different from mine? :(
